Color & Mode

Is it essential to edit your picture? Some might ask. To me, yes, editing is essential. Color will enhance the mood of the picture you’re going to tell but ALWAYS remember that there is a huge different between enhancing and editing the picture.
Enhance: To intensify, to raise the value (here it means color)
Edit: To modify, add to
So, my point is keep it simple, really simple. Keep in mind that you’re going to raise and intensify the value of the color in the picture you took not to add to or modify the original look.
The use of more dramatic black and white tones, with an emphasis on platinum hues and warm chocolate tint will increase the mood of your picture.

Sometimes vibrant color picture will attract too so choose wisely by giving everything a try. Don’t worry because what you will get is an eye-catching photo.
Good Luck Mommies!

Patience & Expression

Always have contemporary style portraiture in your mind every time you want to portrait your baby. Contemporary portraiture is something less pose, less stiff, MORE natural and MORE expressive. I repeat here again MORE EXPRESSION. You can create more dramatic photos with the utilization of strong, clean and more close up photos.

Use more of wide angle lens and wide aperture (small F number) to increase the shallow depth of field. Another thing about photographing babies is having a lot of PATIENCE PATIENCE and PATIENCE. Learn to know your subject which in this case is your dearest baby. Their attitude, the most active time and their best and most suitable time to photography them (this is why in photomama.com we keep on repeating that parents are the best photographer to document their growth.
Technical skills are certainly required to be a good photographer in any field but the very unusual world of babies portraiture we must develop a good psychology skills and learning to know more about your subject is the NUMBER ONE skill.
After all, a portrait of your young child is priceless and it is the reminder of a time that once passed will never come back again. As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Happy Portraying Mommies!

How to create this?

Do you know that you can easily do this at home? YES…at home without any professional tools. You don’t need a stroble light that normally been used in a studio, you don’t need expensive lens nor an expensive camera. This shooting doesnt involve a studio. You won’t believe if I say, this shot didn’t use a backdrop. If you lighted the dark part of the background in this picture, you can see house furnitures. well, this shot taken entirely AT HOME!!!
A simple requirment needed. You camera MUST be able to turn into MANUAL mode (M,A,S for Nikon and Sony or AV, TV, M for Canon). Compact camera can do it as well provided that the camera have option to go manual. You can do this next week, at your home and learn it from our tutorial series EXCLUSIVE for our PREMIUM MEMBERS ONLY.
To all our Premium members, please study the BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY from the previous 2 videos on our systems. This one require you to know the basic first.

Soul = Jiwa (Soul in a picture)

Alhamdulillah, this is my first article which I’ve written to share with all the mommies and daddies out there who might have the same obsession like me that is photographing their kids.
Have you ever thought that a good picture is pictures that have their own SOUL? What is SOUL in a picture? SOUL in my own definition is something that you can feel, something that has a beat when you see those picture you automatically have your very own feel, be it happy or sad. To take pictures that have a SOUL is a very hard thing to do. Yes, to own a DSLR is a ladder for you to be able to capture a share, crisp and vibrant color picture but it is not a promise for you to be able to capture a picture like that with a DSLR camera.
Believe me, compact camera will very much able to capture the SOUL of each photo you took if you are really able to see everything behind the subject that you took.
Forget about all the setting that are needed, forget about ISO, shutter, aperture, background, forget about color, about props that you are going to use to take the photos of your kids.
Instead, in your pursue to capture the best picture; the most important thing is learn to know your subject (your kids) in and out. Where is their strength whether it is their eyes, their cute mouth, small finger, chubby cheek or in their laughter and sadness.
As parents, God have given us a magical feel that we could be able to transfer our children’s strength. So, use that as your weapon to capture their photos. Insha Allah, even though the picture is a bit blur, colorless but you are able to capture their SOUL. Then, you know you have managed to take a good picture. The best thing is your love for your kids will reflect in every piece of the picture.

That is what I always see when I am photographing my kids. I try to explore him deeper and deeper whether he is happy, sad, excited and etc. This is the technique I usually use to photograph baby and toddler. Learn to know them before taking the next step. After I’ve learn about them, then only I would start setting my camera, background and etc. That is my strength in photographing babies that is my motherly instinct.
You are their birth parents, use that instinct and widen the strength.

Love,

Selamat mencuba!

Comment from Editor
This is a great start for all mothers I believe. Zubye is a mother as well as a passionate kids photographer. She do kids photography professionally. I love to address about the point stated by her about SOUL. 1st thing 1st…you have to know your “model” in and out. Once the chemistry is there…even a small baby like Orked (my daughter) can react well with the camera.
Thank Zubye for this wonderful article.

A barber needs another barber to cut his hair…

Hi, these are some of my family photo taken in a professional photography studio in Shah Alam. Photography by Amin Razali. You can obviously see me in the picture. That’s mean, I still need another people to photograph my family. ANother way, you can do it with self-timer…but, if you’re talking a bout a few hundred moment pictures, it’s not a good idea anymore.
Regardless of how good we are, we still need another person or in this case, i used a professional service. It’s quite funny for a photographer to be photographed. For the sake of family, I have to to that. Knowing about photography is a great advantage when I can actually share the ideas with my photographer. Some pictures already in my plan even before entering their studio. The best part is, you can talk the same language with the photographer.
ThePhotoMama.Com will teach you about photography. Use that skill and photograph your kids everyday. Once in a year…seek some touch for a professional
It’s good to have a family portrait every year. As for myself…I’ll try to make it happen every anniversary.

1st PhotoMama Gathering
February 9, 2009 by Saiful Nang

Thanks to all. With your support, we successfully organised our first community gathering in Taman Tun on the 8th of February 2009. They were briefing about the whole concept of photomama and how the mommies can LEARN and at the same time EARN by referring TPMC to their friends passively through putting up our “Intelligent Banner” to their blog, friendster, facebook and many more places online.
STILL FIXING SOME BUGS
As TPMC is still a new systems in town. Our system engineer also facing the problem since this is the first concept in teaching photography to the mothers online in the world, hence…no readymade script for the back-end programming. Many things need to be done from scratch. Meanwhile, I should be thankful to all of you for the continuous support to the TPMC. Some even registered in the very same day of event. Expect some glitch here and there and we’ll try to make thing free from bugs very soon.
For our Premium Members, if u found that there are no different after you get upgraded, please let us know at saifulnang@candidsyndrome.com
